A thru hike is a monumental task when you sit down and think about it. It's almost so overwhelming that it can stop you before you even start. When that day comes when I falter and am not sure I can do the whole thing, I want to remember it's all about the 1's. 1 step, 1 mile, 1 peak, 1 day, 1 night. Just do the ones and the rest will take care of itself. It's my version of the 'journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step' - or the 'one bite at a time' elephant.
